Youth Servant Leadership & Education Program- Caritas Manila

Caritas Manila is the leading social arm of the Archdiocese of Manila and the integrator of the Church social services and development in Metro Manila.

Story

Those who can finish college have a 98% chance of overcoming poverty. In the Philippines, for every 100 children that enter grade 1, only 14 will finish college.

Through Caritas Manilaā€™s Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program (YSLEP), poor and deserving youths are given a chance to earn college or vocational/technical degrees to help them lift their families out of poverty.

Caritas Manila is a non-profit organization that serves as the lead social service and development ministry of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. The organization is geared towards total human development, poverty alleviation, and the creation of a Christian community with a strong social conscience.

First known as Catholic Charities, Caritas Manila was established by the late Manila Archbishop Rufino Cardinal Santos on October 1, 1953, as a social welfare program ā€œfor uplifting the spirit and soul of the unfortunate members of our community, to assist them in all their needs, and to bring the help of God in their miseries and distress.ā€
